Clean Air – Clean Fuels -- PASSED
Background information about the Clean Air - Clean Fuels campaign.
Thanks to
over one thousand of you for emailing your legislators in support of the Clean
Air-Clean Fuels bill this session. This environmental priority passed the House with a strong
bi-partisan 79-19 vote and the Senate with an impressive 44-4 vote.
The bill will deliver better air quality, reduced petroleum
dependence, practical climate solutions, and a new source of good jobs in
Washington.
Background
Gas
and oil imports drain over $30 million from our state economy
every day, and petroleum used in transportation is our state’s #1 source of
global warming pollution and air toxics.
We
need to make clean fuels and vehicles more practical and affordable for the
people of Washington. The Clean Air – Clean Fuels bill will
help to increase local demand, production, and distribution of clean
fuels and vehicles. With the passage of this bill we can attract good
jobs, clear the air, and build a healthier future for Washington!
The
Clean Air – Clean Fuels bill would:
- Require a
25% reduction in petroleum use by state fleets by 2020, growing the market for
cleaner fuels and vehicles.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and clean up our air by creating the infrastructure and incentives for Washington State to produce and use biodiesel and cellulosic ethanol.
