Fulfill Our Clean Energy Initiative

Sustain the success of I-937 in bringing investments, jobs and economic development throughout Washington.

Washington voters approved Initiative 937 to make sure the energy we use in the future is at least as clean as the energy we use today. It tells the state’s major electric utilities to get all the energy conservation that lowers people’s bills and to gradually increase the proportion of new renewable energy in their power mix to 15% by 2020. I-937 remains essential to building a vital, job-creating new energy economy and creating a clean, secure and affordable energy future.

I-937 protects people’s health and the environment

I-937 reduces our reliance on fossil fuels, protecting us from pollution and volatile prices, and remains the No. 1 practical means for meeting the state’s official climate pollution limits. We must continue its success in protecting our environment and the health of our families.

I-937 is an economic solution

In these challenging economic times, I-937 is delivering real economic development through energy efficiency and new renewable energy projects. It has generated about $7 billion in renewable energy investments in this state, especially in our struggling rural communities, and alltime- record efficiency savings for energy consumers. More investments, more savings and more jobs will come to us as long as I-937 keeps the pathway open.

I-937 reflects Washington values

Initiative 937 reflects deeply held Washington values by helping to reduce health-damaging pollution and doing our part to forestall climate disaster.

The 2012 legislature can preserve voters’ intent -- increasing the development of clean and renewable energy – while considering changes that make the initiative work better for all Washingtonians.
