Environmental Community Prevents Major Rollbacks in 2012 Session
Environmental Priorities Coalition of Washington State, on the environment, policy and legislation to protect and conserve a healthy environment and vibrant economy.
Historic attacks fended off, but lawmakers miss opportunity to protect kids against toxic flame retardants.
OLYMPIA, WA – This session in the Washington State Legislature, the Environmental Priorities Coalition worked to protect the things most important to Washington's future. With support from our champion legislators, the Coalition prevented what would have been historic rollbacks to major environmental protections, including the Growth Management Act, the Shoreline Management Act, the State Environmental Policy Act and the state energy code. This effort was bolstered by constructive negotiations with stakeholders to resolve some long-standing concerns. However, lawmakers missed an opportunity to protect our children against toxics in every-day products, by failing to pass the Toxic-Free Kids Act.
