A slow-motion oil spill
Ask your legislators - again - to support the Working for Clean Water bill. Time is running out.
Email your legislator now to stop the number one source of water pollution in Washington State: Stormwater runoff.
We have the opportunity to do something big for Puget Sound - right now.
We've been talking to you a lot about the Working for Clean Water bill (HB
3181/SB 6851) and the ups and downs as it moves through the legislative process.
But we wanted to take a step back and remember why we're working on this. That's
because if it passes, Working for Clean Water will be one of the most
significant steps forward for Puget Sound - and waterways around Washington - in
the last twenty years.
Polluted runoff from our city streets is poisoning our waters. Some call it
an Exxon Valdez spill in slow motion - the implications for Puget Sound and our
rivers and streams are just that deadly. We know what to do to stop it -
retrofitting urban streets, digging storm ponds, building better storm drains,
and encouraging low-impact development.
To complete these stormwater
projects on a scale that will make a difference we need significant sustained
funding from the state - and that's where Working for Clean Water comes in. By
taxing the pollutants that are harming our waters, it provides a long-term
source of funding for these desperately needed infrastructure projects.
Can you help us get it over the finish line? This week is critical to
the success of this bill - and the health of our beautiful state. We need to get
2000 calls and emails in to state legislators this week.
Will you email your legislators in support of Working for Clean
Water?
We need your help to make this happen. Please email your
legislator and let them know that you think Working for Clean Water is an
essential step towards a healthy future for Washington.
